AFF to NF Foam Transition

Next-Generation Fire Protection Solutions for Marine, Offshore & Oil & Gas Industry

Bumi Sendayan Sdn Bhd (BSSB) is a one-stop solution provider offering comprehensive services for the transition from Aqueous Film Forming Foam (AFFF) to Non-Fluorinated (NF) Firefighting Foam.

BSSB specialises in providing end-to-end AFFF to Non-Fluorinated (NF) Foam Transition Solutions for critical fire protection systems across the Oil & Gas, Marine, Offshore, Petrochemical and Industrial sectors.

As the industry moves towards the adoption of fluorine-free firefighting technologies, BSSB supports asset owners, operators and facility managers in transitioning existing AFFF systems to suitable Non-Fluorinated (NF) Foam solutions.

Our comprehensive approach covers the complete transition lifecycle, from system assessment, AFFF removal and disposal, system cleaning and decontamination, engineering and compatibility assessment, NF foam supply and installation, system modification, testing, commissioning and technical documentation.

BSSB works closely with recognised OEMs, foam manufacturers, specialist contractors and technical partners to develop solutions tailored to each system and application.

Our objective is to ensure that every transition is undertaken with due consideration to system integrity, fire protection performance, operational readiness, regulatory requirements and applicable international standards.

OUR AFFF → NF TRANSITION CAPABILITY

BSSB offers a structured, system-based approach covering the complete transition process:

1. EXISTING SYSTEM SURVEY & ASSESSMENT
Detailed inspection and assessment of the existing foam system, including:
• Foam storage/bladder tank
• Foam proportioning system
• Foam pumps
• Pipework and valves
• Foam monitors
• Foam chambers
• Nozzles and discharge devices
• Existing AFFF concentrate
• System application requirements

2. EXISTING AFFF REMOVAL

Controlled removal of existing AFFF concentrate, including appropriate handling, collection and disposal arrangements for the existing foam and associated contaminated materials.

3. SYSTEM CLEANING & DECONTAMINATION
Cleaning and flushing of the existing system, including where applicable:

  • Foam tanks
  • Bladder tanks
  • Proportioners
  • Pipework
  • Valves
  • Monitors
  • Nozzles
  • Associated components

The objective is to minimise residual contamination from the previous AFFF installation before introducing the replacement NF foam.

4.ENGINEERING & COMPATIBILITY REVIEW

The proposed NF foam is evaluated against the existing fire protection system and application.

The assessment may include:

  • Foam concentrate compatibility
  • Proportioning equipment compatibility
  • Hydraulic requirements
  • Application density
  • Discharge duration
  • Foam expansion characteristics
  • Fuel hazard
  • Existing monitors and nozzles
  • Freshwater/seawater compatibility
  • OEM requirements
  • Applicable standards and approvals

5. NON-FLUORINATED (NF) FOAM CONCENTRATE SUPPLY & SYSTEM REFILL

Supply and installation of suitable Non-Fluorinated (NF) Foam Concentrate based on the approved technical solution.

BSSB can coordinate with recognised foam manufacturers and specialist technology partners to provide the appropriate NF foam for the application.

    6. PROPORTIONING & SYSTEM CALIBRATION

Following installation, the foam proportioning system is inspected, calibrated and verified to ensure the required concentration and system performance.

    7. TESTING & COMMISSIONING

    Testing and commissioning may include:

    • Functional testing
    • Proportioning verification
    • Foam quality testing
    • Flow testing
    • Discharge testing, where required
    • System performance verification
    • Alarm/interface testing
    • Final commissioning

    8. TECHNICAL DOCUMENTATION

BSSB provides comprehensive project documentation, including applicable:

    • Product Technical Data Sheet (TDS)
    • Safety Data Sheet (SDS)
    • Product certificates
    • Test reports
    • Foam analysis reports
    • Commissioning reports
    • Inspection reports
    • Updated system documentation
    • Maintenance recommendations

      Applications

Our Non-Fluorinated (NF) Foam Transition Solutions can be evaluated and tailored for a wide range of high-risk fire protection applications, including:
